Barbara Corbató, viola
Barbara Corbató is currently the Assistant Principal Viola of the Grand Rapids Symphony, where she has performed since 1990. Also a busy chamber musician, Barbara is a member of the Perugino String Quartet, the Grand Rapids Symphony’s Calder Quintet and frequently joins friends and colleagues for chamber music performances around West Michigan.
Barbara is also an active viola teacher, serving on the viola faculty at Hope College and maintaining a home studio of pre-college students. She has also served on the faculties at Aquinas and Calvin Colleges.
While growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Barbara began her viola studies through her neighborhood public elementary school strings program. She later attended the University of Michigan, where she received undergraduate and graduate degrees in Viola Performance. Before making Grand Rapids her home, she was a member of the New World Symphony of Miami, Florida, and also performed with Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra and many ensembles throughout the Midwest.
