Pablo Mahave-Veglia · Cello
Since 2003 Pablo Mahave-Veglia has been the cello professor at Grand Valley State University. Mr. Mahave-Veglia is a cellist and teacher of broad interests whose repertoire ranges from the baroque performed on period instruments to his ongoing interest in researching, performing and recording the work of contemporary Latin-American composers.
During the summer of 2008 Dr. Mahave-Veglia will be on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Madison Summer Cello Institute. After that he will be, as a member of the Kapell Trio (along with violinist Stephen Shipps and pianist Stephen Swedish), in residence at the International Music Academy in Pilsen, the Czech Republic. Late in the summer he will be performing both period and modern instruments at the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck.
An alumnus of the Interlochen Arts Academy, Dr. Mahave-Veglia holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Indiana University and the Eastman School of Music. He performs on a baroque cello made by Chilean Luthier Marcelo Cigna in 1986 as well as a modern instrument made in 1790 by William Forster. The latter is on loan to him by an anonymous benefactor.
